Teachers4Good – Fark Yaratan Öğretmenler: Nimet Çetinkaya, Van

Do you remember your teacher from primary school?

As Turks4Good, we want to remember the young, selfless  rural school teachers in their first few years on the job, in the remote corners of Turkey.  Our 4Kids projects for their classrooms and children are only a small token of our appreciation.  We want to salute them, and honor them, and thank them… They are indeed a national treasure!

Here is Nimet Çetinkaya from Konya who is serving at Van’s Seydibey Vilage School…  You can read more about Nimet at our below Medium article published in “Building Bridges”

With no end insight, we as BTF continue to support Syrian Refugee Children and their education. We have reached 8000 children through our various programs and impacted their lives in a big way. In this World Refugee Day, we remember them, and all the hardship they are enduring in the world we live in. We might be a small community, but we always believe in there is more we can all do and impact in this crisis. Thank you for your ongoing support, bringing happiness & hope for Syrian Refugee Children...

Today, on World Refugee Day, we are witnessing the worst refugee crisis since World War II. I recently traveled to Turkey and Greece to visit some of the projects that you have been so instrumental in supporting. In Turkey, I met with two local organizations supported by Bridge to Turkiye—YUVA and SKYGD—which both focused on refugees’ profound need for access to education. Currently, only one in three Syrian refugee children is attending a school of any kind. The rest face language barriers and pressure to work to support families that have few means of supporting themselves. Bridge to Turkiye’s partners are working to provide education for children and vocational and language classes for adults new to their country.

When GlobalGiving created this relief fund in 2013, we couldn’t foresee that it would be even more necessary today, three years after its launch, than it was back then. There are currently more than 4.5 million Syrian refugees living in just five countries: Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt. While they hope to return to their homes in Syria, it doesn’t look like the political situation will change anytime soon, and the families you’ve supported are now faced with the reality that their current situation is likely to be the new normal for the foreseeable future.

About

Bridge to Türkiye Fund (BTF) was established in 2003 by community minded Turkish Americans (Turks4Good) driven to make a difference, to improve life and to cultivate social change for the common good. Our circle of compassion promotes respect and fellowship for humankind in the communities we serve. Turks4Good commitment to these ideals stems from our basic desire to give back to our native land for the many opportunities we have gained from her. We invite you to also contribute to the welfare of less fortunate children in Turkey.
